If you will be heading to college this fall and living in a dorm, the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) and the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) highly recommend that you are immunized against meningitis. Meningococcal disease is very dangerous because it often begins with symptoms that can be mistaken for common viral illnesses such as flu. But unlike common infections this disease can get worse very rapidly, and it can kill an otherwise healthy young person in 48 hours or less. Every year 50-100 cases of meningitis are reported in Michigan. HENRY FORD-WYANDOTTE HOSPITAL is offering a limited quantity of the new and improved meningitis vaccine, MENACTRA, during the following dates and times: April 26, Tuesday 5:30pm – 8:00pm First Floor, OB Clinic May 18, Wednesday 5:30pm – 8:00pm First Floor, OB Clinic Cost for the MENACTRA meningitis vaccine is $90.00, cash or check only.
